This coming Monday, I will be 37 weeks pregnant (so 3 weeks to go!) The baby's nursery is mostly ready and I finished washing the last of his huge lot of clothes last night! We still have a few small things that we want to get done but if they don't happen until he gets here we are okay with them.
I really have been meaning to get out here and give you guys something new to read and look at but after working, getting things together for the baby and taking care of myself; there seems to be such little time left for things like the internet/computer. The reason for this update is because we are in need of your prayers!! Little Bit and I are okay and healthy but we started to experience our first pregnancy problems this past week. I have been diagnosed with pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP) after a week of insane itching. I already have a skin condition on my legs that cause intense itching at times but when the itching started to affect my legs, arms and back it became quite uncomfortable at times. In the last 10 days, I can't do anything to make the itching stop. At my doctor's visit this week the doctor explained the two main conditions that I could have and ran some blood work. My blood work came back fine (thank God because the other option is liver failure like!) The down side to this condition is there is nothing that they can do for me because the intense itching is from the extra amounts of hormones that will remain in my body until delivery. I have started on an antihistamine and hopefully it will calm things down.
However....the main reason for the prayer request is our baby's position. For many weeks now I have felt his head poke into my right side ribcage. When he stretches out, I get a large "egg" on my right side and he seems rather comfy there. The doctor checked by ultrasound and our little guy is transverse.
Much like this pictures except he is actually butt up and his feet were dangling down slightly. The doctor offered to do an external version where they actually turn the baby from the outside of the body. A baby's lungs may not be developed enough before 37 weeks and there are quite a few risks involved so Nate and I have chosen to wait for now. My doctor will be out of town for my 37th week so we have some time to think. The external version could cause me to go into labor by breaking my water and create many other complications. At this stage, there is no way for me to birth him naturally because he isn't technically breech and can't come out sideways. Should my water break early, I will have to have an emergency c-section to get him safely to us. If we chose to have the external version done at a later point (38 weeks), I could still go into labor but the doctor is saying that we have a good chance that an external version would work because he has not dropped and they would only have to turn him (as opposed to lifting then turning with a breech baby.)So please prayer for our family and pray that our little guy will settle in and turn head down for delivery. If he does not turn by 38 weeks, please pray that Nate and I will have the strength to make the right decision. We really appreciate all your thoughts and support!
Love,
~S
